Empowering wellbeing and health through nature: inspiring good practices and initiatives across Europe. Can nature help our health and wellbeing?
In the last few years, the demand for spending time in nature has been increasing, along with a renewed interest in Green Care practices. The term Green Care refers to those practices promoting health and wellbeing through nature. They range from disease prevention to therapeutic interventions and rehabilitation activities. Extensive research is demonstrating the benefits of nature on health, as well as on social inclusion and the environment.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown measures that followed have further exacerbated the need for green and blue spaces, especially in urban areas. Still, cities and regions face many challenges when promoting green areas. Nowadays, it is fundamental for local governments to be able to provide consistent solutions, especially with regard to the European objectives set out in the Green Deal.
In the framework of the EU Regions Week, we are hosting the workshop “Empowering wellbeing and health through nature: inspiring good practices and initiatives across Europe”. Jointly organized by European Forest Institute (EFI) and the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), the aim of this workshop is to improve regional and national policies to protect nature and the practices related to it. Drawing on our experience in Green Care, this session will discuss the importance of political and social action to protect nature. At the same time, new Green Care initiatives across Europe will also be presended and discussed.
The event will be in English. To find out more about the EU Regions Week here.
